


Brian Grimes is a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant to Talisman He previously served for thirty-three years in supervisory positions at the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory and U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. He managed groups of 60 to 130 engineers, scientists and support staff responsible for technical specifications, events analysis, generic communications, reactor decommissioning, research reactors, naval reactor reviews, reactor design basis inspections, NRC technical training center, NRC emergency operations center, quality assurance, and emergency preparedness. He served as Director of the post-TMI NRC Division of Emergency Preparedness, in charge of on-site and off-site preparedness improvements, including establishment of Emergency Planning Zones and evacuation time estimates. He is familiar with the design features and operating experience of all operating U.S. nuclear power plants. Mr. Grimes has served as an expert witness in more than 15 nuclear licensing proceedings. He was a Senior NRC representative at numerous public meetings and media interviews; NRC manager for IAEA safety assessment team staffing; and was a founding member of the working group on inspection practices at the Nuclear Energy Agency of OECD. He has had extensive interaction with FEMA and EPA on Emergency Preparedness guidelines and regulations. Mr. Grimes holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering both from the University of Washington. He attended the International School of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Argonne National Laboratory and has taken graduate courses in Engineering Administration at the George Washington University.
