Hugh Thompson is Vice President of Talisman and is a Partner in the firm. He has more than 35 years of nuclear safety experience, including senior level management positions at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. From 1996 to 1998 Mr. Thompson was the Deputy Executive Director for Regulatory Programs at the NRC. In that position, he directed the licensing, inspection, and rule making activities for all NRC licensed nuclear reactors, the oversight of DOE's high-level radioactive waste program, the decontamination and decommissioning of contaminated sites, and the material licensees regulated by both the 29 Agreement States and the NRC. Mr. Thompson has also held the positions of Director of the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, Director of the Division of Licensing and Director of the Division of Human Factors Safety for the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. Mr. Thompson was the NRC's Environmental Project Manager for the draft and final NEPA statements for both construction permits and operating licenses. He provided expert testimony in NRC licensing hearings and testified before state and local governmental hearings. Mr. Thompson has testified before congressional committees and the NRC Commission on issues such as safety issues at licensed nuclear facilities, NRC's HLW program, potential NRC oversight of DOE facilities and Y2K safety concerns.

At Talisman Mr. Thompson has provided expert regulatory assistance in cases involving NRC regulatory actions, including lost spent fuel, independent reviews of safety allegations at reactors and fuel cycle facilities and reviewed operational issues with fuel cycle facilities. He also supported DOE and DOE contractors. He has chaired an Independent Technical Review Panel evaluating safety concerns of a planned DOE remediation at a low-level radioactive waste burial site, supported both NNSA and INL in safety programs. Mr. Thompson is currently serving as an independent member of the University of Chicago ANL Oversight Board. Mr. Thompson received his B.S. from the U. S. Naval Academy, his M.S. Degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and his J.D. degree from George Washington University.
