


John Craig is a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman. Mr. Craig retired from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in April 2005 after 33 years of Federal service. His career at the NRC included a broad range of positions of increasing responsibility covering all phases of nuclear power plant safety regulation. As Associate Director for Inspection and Programs in Nuclear Reactor Regulation his responsibilities included the inspection and oversight activities for all civilian nuclear power reactors and non-power reactors in the US, review of next-generation reactor designs/facilities, license renewal, environmental issues, standard technical specifications, emergency planning, technical evaluations and assessment of operating reactor events, nuclear plant operator licensing, licensee quality assurance programs and NRR’s allegation program. As a Senior Executive he also served as the Assistant for Operations for the Executive Director for Operations, Chief of Staff for the Chairman of the NRC, and Deputy Director, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research.
Mr. Craig’s assignments also included: Team Leader for a Diagnostic Evaluation Team which examined plant safety and management performance at Brunswick nuclear power plant, Team Leader for the inspection team which examined safety conscious workforce culture issues at Tennessee Valley Authority facilities; he also participated in investigations of the events related to the breakdown of quality assurance at Watts Bar, and information flow during the accident at Three Mile Island Unit 2. He conducted numerous inspections at nuclear power plants; vendor, nuclear steam system supplier and architect engineer facilities. He was the senior executive responsible for oversight of all regulatory and licensing activities for numerous sites in the Midwest. Mr. Craig served as the NRC’s Standards Executive and was the NRC representative on the ASME’s Nuclear Quality Assurance Main Committee.
Mr. Craig led NRC delegations during numerous international activities. For example, he led the delegation at the 14th Bilateral Information Exchange Meeting with the Nuclear Industrial Safety Agency of Japan, and led meetings with the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Representative Office.
He received a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Maryland, and received numerous awards while employed with the NRC, including Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive.
