


Ken Brockman is a Senior Nuclear Safety Consultant at Talisman. He has just completed a tour as the Director of the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. In this capacity, he was responsible for the development of the international standards of safety associated with all nuclear reactor and fuel cycle installations in the world. Additionally, he oversaw the IAEA’s regulatory, engineering and operational safety assistance programs.
Prior to this assignment, Ken was the Director, Division of Reactor Projects, Region IV, for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), where he managed the inspection and assessment program for the twenty-one commercial nuclear power reactors in the Western half of the United States. Mr. Brockman joined the NRC in 1984 as a License Examiner in the agency’s Atlanta region. He was also certified as a reactor inspector, and while in Atlanta, he assumed positions of increasing managerial responsibility. Ken subsequently served in the NRC Headquarters as a Senior Regional Coordinator on the staff of the Executive Director for Operations, and as a Technical Assistant for NRC Chairman Ivan Selin. From 1993-1995, as the executive manager for the NRC’s emergency response organization, he directed the activities of the agency’s emergency response program, coordinating the NRC’s response program for nuclear emergencies with those of the rest of the Federal government, and managing the Operations Officers who provide the 24 hour-per-day communications link between the NRC and its licensees. During this time, he oversaw the construction of, and subsequent move into, the new Operations Center in Rockville, MD.
Mr. Brockman holds a B.S. degree in General Engineering from the U. S. Military Academy. He has completed postgraduate studies in nuclear engineering with the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratoriesand holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from The American University. He is a member of the Alpha Alpha Pi Honorary Society and the American Nuclear Society. He received a Meritorious Rank Award from the President of the United States in 2001 for his managerial expertise as a member of the United States Senior Executive Service.
